There Are More Attractions In Belize Than Just Scuba Diving Destinations

By Linda Patterson

Do you know what Belize is? If no, then you are not alone; a lot of people do not know about this Central American country that is tucked between Guatemala, Mexico and the Western Caribbean Sea.

Belize is one of the places where the ancient Maya civilization flourished. This tiny country is rich in natural resources. The anonymity of this country has helped in the conservation of its environment. If you are an adventure lover then a Belize tour will take you to an exciting outdoor adventure.

The coast is packed with picturesque resorts and there are several islands referred to as cays off the shore which served as a marine life sanctuary. Among these is the Ambergris Caye which is recognized but when you're seeking a less crowded and not too modern setting then it is Caye Caulker that you must check out. Aside from a rural ambiance, this atoll is within close to a lot of diving and also snorkeling sites.

The Great Blue Hole is deemed to be a very famous diving site all over the world. Belize scuba diving travel package can take you to this great diving site.

Did you know where the Great Blue Hole began? It is actually a result of a process which was triggered 15,000 years ago during the Ice Age, when the level of sea-water dropped considerably hence uncovering the limestone below. Underwater caverns were formed when much of the limestone eroded after the fresh water poured in gradually. For quite some time, there was a solid roof supporting a hollow network underneath then when it could not anymore hold, it collapsed resulting in an enormous sinkhole. It's quite a challenge to explore the depth of this hole. The depth of this hole is bottomless hence it is strongly recommended that you have an experienced diving instructor close by.

There are other scuba diving sites that are worth exploring such as Hole Chan Marine Reserve and Tres Cocos which means three coconuts. Hol Chan which means 'Little Blue Channel' was created in 1987 and it is marine reserve that is a home to a number of coral varieties and marine life.

Embarking on a Belize travel package will also take divers to another amazing scuba diving site called Punta Arena Canyons. Also referred to as 'Small Cut', this diving location includes a couple of canyons which can be reached through a triangular entrance. The marine life is amazing and this makes the diving experience memorable and enriching.

Don't miss to check out the Booby birds that are dwelling in the Zircote forest on Half Moon Caye when you are on land. From the 3 Booby bird species which exist in Belize, this island is where you can find the white variety that has unique black markings on its wings. If you are in the observation tower, you will get to see these birds swooping for fish as well as get a glimpse of their light blue egg that are nestled among the orange flowers of the Zircote thicket.

Do you have some time left? If so, it is the best time to take this opportunity to meet and greet the ethnic inhabitants, or catch your own fish or simply take a walk along the lovely beach. At your vacation's end, you will surely be missing and wanting to return to Belize.
