What You Need To Know About Earth Friendly Paints

By Terry Bascom

You may or may not know that regular paints release solvents into the atmosphere during the curing and evaporation process, and as you'll likely be able to imagine, this isn't a good thing. Volatile Organic Compounds or VOCs are finding their way into the our surroundings. Ozone damage, increased risk of smog, and possible global warming, are just a number of the results this can cause. Global warming concerns mean that the public are searching for more options in their choice of paints. Back in the 1990s, when we had our first look at the first environmentally friendly paints, they failed to take off.

So, will environmentally friendly paints become more popular with the heightened awareness of global warming? Objections from experts in the field of paint are going to have to be surmounted. The contradicting views mean that, according to some of these experts, paints containing the volatile organic compounds are more superior. The longevity of Earth friendly paint and the need to utilize more are the exact reason that paint experts give to oppose them. People are switching over to Earth friendly paints to avoid health related concerns such as headaches and asthma so the paint manufacturers are forced to take this under serious consideration.

Latex paint which is water based could be the solution to this issue. Due to the fact that VOCs are not present, it means they are friendly to the environment. The water based nature of latex paint means that painting on iron is a problem due to rusting. Latex paints, despite any of these issues, are becoming increasingly sought after.

When we say 'environmentally friendly paints', we don't simply mean the paint itself is environmentally safe, but also the process in which the paint was created or how the ingredients were gathered. There are paints that contain Titanium Dioxide which can conceal other paints as it is really white. Titanium Dioxide is prepared through a couple of processes that result in weak sulphuric acid being made. The environment is damaged as the acid is released into a body of water.

Titanium Dioxide leads to smog when exposed to sunlight, which is another serious worry. A carcinogen that may result in cancer likewise has implications with Titanium Dioxide. Even though these worries are acknowledged Titanium Dioxide remains widely used in paints.

People are beginning to buy eco friendly paints now that they are becoming more educated about the health and environmental significance of regular paints.
