Different Cars That Are Eco-Friendly

By Robert Bryan

As we continue using fossil fuels for our energy, we come face to face with the outcomes of the pollution generated and the harm it's doing to the environment. We have to see a shift and cars are surely an area we can focus on. Cars do have a contribution towards the emissions released which can hurt the environment, so it's nothing to be amazed about that auto makers have begun producing eco friendly vehicles.

There are a lot of different types of these eco friendly vehicles, the most environmentally friendly being a car that is battery powered. Because the battery is the primary power source, the vehicle has no need for any of the common car fuels. Sounds excellent as it doesn't require gasoline, so it's money-saving and it's environmentally friendly which is fantastic, but there is a drawback. These cars are still in the initial phase even though they have been made available to consumers, so their engines are rather limited. This means that you will need to recharge the battery after roughly 100 miles, so it doesn't have a lot of mileage on one run.

The hybrid car is another choice of vehicle available to customers. They run on both a battery and gas and are friendly to the environment. You could be thinking, 'How does that work?' Well, I'll share it with you. As the car starts moving, it consumes electricity from the battery. When it reaches a certain speed, it begins using petrol, giving it plenty of power for the highway. The need to recharge the battery is done away with as this occcurs as the petrol is consumed.

Plug-in hybrids are yet one more car type. These are also friendly to the environment and work like the hybrid cars noted earlier. The plug-in hybrid vehicle does, however, need to be charged up manually whereas this is an automatic function of the standard hybrid. When it comes to fuel consumption, both types of hybrid cars appear to peerform better than your regular car.

A hybrid vehicle that can give you 50 miles to the gallon is the Prius from Toyota. With a price tag in the region of $22,000, this has become a hot seller. Toyota is not the only one who jumped in, however; Honda has created the 'Insight' and in fact this vehicle was the first hybrid to be made available to to consumers. It helped promote awareness among consumers for hybrid cars and opened the door for the Toyota Prius. The Ford Fusion Hybrid, which costs approximately $27,000, has various awards to its name. It is seen by many as the top hybrid car in the US. Mitsubishi's i-MiEV is thought to boast of an emission level of zero. As for Japanese car makers, the i-MiEV was one of the earliest electric vehicles produced.

As technology sees further improvements and the market gets bigger we are going to see a lot more choices for buyers in the hybrid and eco friendly car world.
