The Strange Exhibits Denver Puts On Display

By Marsha Silva

Even though you are only going to be in the Mile High city on business for a few days, you will have the opportunity to do some sightseeing. You are aware of the various exhibits Denver art galleries and museum have on display, but you were sort of hoping to find some of the unique, off beat, and weird things around. You can see the usual tourist things any time.

You first came up with the idea while you were collecting your luggage at the airport. You had heard about the bizarre and somewhat frightening set of murals in the airport here, but when you actually had a chance to see them up close you were speechless. If this was the kind of crazy thing they put in high traffic public facilities in this town, what on Earth would the stranger little museum have?

As it happened, you immediately realized that even the biggest and most mainstream galleries have weird things in them. Looking through a brochure for the main municipal art gallery you note that there is an installation of Italian Renaissance depictions of babies that looks quite strange and creepy in some ways. Not that odd looking children are unusual in Renaissance paintings, but there you have it.

More interesting to you is something called Soundwalk. This is apparently an aural installation on Curtis Street which produces odd and amusing sounds for passing pedestrians as they interact with it.

Haunted places are a lot of fun, and the Brown Palace Tour claims to be one of the better ghostly hotel tours in the city. You have always liked ghost walks, especially when they take place in old hotels with secret passages and their tales of suicide, murder, and ghostly tenants. Ask them about room 904 and the socialite who made it her home for the fifteen years before her death.

One thing you have determined is absolutely necessary is to spend some quality time with those airport murals again. If you check in a few hours early you will have plenty of opportunity to examine these unnerving and surreal pictures. There is something about the subject matter as well as the presentation technique that just feels weird and wrong to you. With any luck, you will be able to take some photographs of them.

The exhibits Denver museums have on offer are only one small part of the things to see and do in this city. Some of the strangest things are found in weird places, just as you would hope. Read more about: exhibits denver
