Ground Transportation From Alicante Airport in Spain

By Ager Sovson

Alicante Airport, located about 9 kilometers southwest of Alicante, in Elche, Spain, serves as the main airport travelers use to the Alicante and Murcia regions. Clean with marble halls, this airport has restaurants, shops, and bars for you to lounge in while you wait for your incoming flight. You can also shop at their large duty free store within the terminal. You won't be bored while you wait. About 80% of the people who visit Costa Blanca come in through this airport. Having opened in 1967, it has grown dramatically since then. Nearly nine million people fly into Alicante every year, so the business this airport handles is huge.

Because the airport's traffic has continued to grow and grow, a new terminal is planned for 2009. International flights arrive at the airport every day. Since British travelers in particular love this area, many from the United Kingdom will be found there.

Traveling From Alicante Airport

Upon arriving at Alicante airport you might be surprised that there is no train. Your ground transportation method will depend on where exactly you plan to stay and how much you intend to travel within the region.

The air conditioned airport bus to Alicante is not very expensive and you can take it to several different destinations. The ride takes about forty minutes with the bus running from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. It runs about every forty-five minutes. Although lots of drivers only speak Spanish, they are always very friendly and helpful.

You can take a bus to Benidorm as well. Although it is bit more expensive, the ride is also a bit longer. To reach Benidorm from the airport will take about an hour and a half. Because this route is fairly new, it doesn't run as often as the one to downtown Alicante. Its schedule is from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and it comes about every hour. Routes are available to Calpe, Torrevieja and Denia as well.

Taxis are available outside the airport. The drivers are quite helpful. Some are bilingual while others speak only Spanish. Since these taxi drivers are used to tourists neither should cause a problem. You can take a taxi to the train station in Alicante or you can get one to any of the local cities. Expect to pay according to the distance of your final destination. Though travel from Alicante Airport might be a little more cumbersome from that of many airports, the saving in prices is probably worth it. Have a wonderful time during your travels in the regions of the Alicante airport, and good luck with all your travel plans as well!
