Easier than Driving

By Daniel Pott

Flying somewhere usually means that you need to get there either very quickly or it is the only way to get there. Now, we all know that there is no place that is only accessible by air except for maybe some remote areas of Alaska or Africa that most people wouldn't be going to anyway. You could almost certainly take another mode of transportation such as a boat or train to just about anywhere.

But because most people do not have days, weeks or months to make a trip, it really does come down to speed and time. Air travel is fast and relatively cheap for the amount of distance that is covered in such a brief period of time. And for all of its inconveniences, and there are quite a few, it is most likely one of the least stressful ways to travel.

Look at the headaches involved with taking a road trip of any distance of a couple of hundred miles. Everything involved from before leaving like making certain everything is in working order on the car, to packing all of the extra items that you will require while on a long road trip such as snacks and entertainment, to having to worry about locating gas stations that are open.

This is especially valid if you have ever attempted to do the driving overnight. And just the deficiency of comfort that you experience while sitting in a car for hours on end can be enough to discourage the trip from the beginning. Now, for a long airplane trip you can use some of the same reasoning as to why it's no fun and uncomfortable. If you're flying to the other side of the globe like China or Australia, you're looking at practically a full day on an airplane.

The main difference is that you don't have to be worried about the logistics and it's like having free time before you get there. Also, if you're going on a trip that far away, the plane is usually a larger model with more room and sometimes even room to move around. You don't have to stay seated the entire time. You can move around the cabin, stretching out your legs and getting your circulation moving around. But you don't need to stop to do it. Also, everything that needs to get done in order to get to your destination is done for you. You don't need to be worried about finding the best route or stopping for gas.
