Environmental Issues In Today's Times

By Brent McNutt

The term environmental issues is used to describe the problems that humans have caused to the environment. It is used to show the negative aspects only and concentrates on the issues that have concerned humanity. They can include earth problems, polluted water and other disasters.

Common environmental issues are anoxic waters, global warming, climate change, greenhouse effect, fossil fuels, sea level rise, species extinction, pollution, dams, energy insufficiency and many more. Environmental issues have all started by the activity of humans. Today, there are many sciences that study the environment, the earth and waters and aim to decrease the intensity of the problems or even solve them. There are also a number of organizations that focus on the environment and aim to save endangered species, clean the waters or find ways to solve other problems that we are facing. In some cases the only thing they can do is to educate people so that the problem will stop being created. The largest organization is United Nations Environment Program established in 1972. The first thing that the organization does is that it manages all the activities of the countries and so they can be controlled and monitored. It also helps developing countries get the education they need to place environmentally friendly policies. The activities focus on the earth, the atmosphere and the marine systems. It also funds projects and programs that can help. Apart from that, there are a number of other organizations that take action on the matter like Greenpeace and WWF.

One of the most common environmental issue is biodiversity. Biodiversity is the term used to describe the number of different species that exist. They can be plants, animals and micro organisms. It is also used to describe the different ecosystems, the desserts, the oceans, the rainforests and so on. The solution to the problems biodiversity is facing is to create a strategy that can sustain and assist that environment. Preserving biodiversity, species and their natural environment is very important as nature can sustain itself through this procedure. Climate change and especially global warming is another big problem that affects the eco system and needs our attention.

Global warming is caused by human actions and has too many negative effects. Energy efficiency is also very important. The fact that people today produce too much waste is also a problem that humans can solve. Big companies have the tendency to over pack the products and people have the tendency to choose products that are packed too much. Even small products have larger packages than they should, when the ideal would be not to have any. Plastic is also overused and only few people understand the importance of using material that can be reused.

One way to save the environment is to know which actions are eco friendly and which are not. There are many people that care about this situation but cannot actually do something because they don't know what to do. So education is one of the first things that should change. Simple habits like closing the tap while bathing and using the new kind of lights will make a big difference.
