See Breakin' Two On Movie Downloads

By Clayton Jacobson

There's no doubt that Breakin' 2 Electric Boogaloo is the movie of the eighties. Maybe not the greatest film made between 1980 and 1990, but certainly the most eighties movie in existence. Whatever reason you could possibly have for wanting to see a flick from the eighties, you'll find it in Breakin' 2. The hair, the clothes, the music, the corny jokes and storylines, it's all here, and that's why Breakin' 2 is at the top of the list of must download movies of the eighties.

The story follows Shabadoo and Boogaloo Shrimp essentially playing themselves as two breakdancers who teach popping and locking at the local community center, where poor young children go to learn dancing, boxing, art, whatever. It keeps them out of trouble and is really a big boon to the local community, really giving a sense of belonging to these poor street kids.

Of course, there's always conflict, and this time it's the crooked land developer story. You need this in an eighties movie. It worked for The Blues Brothers, it worked for The Goonies, and it's done to perfection in Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo. The center is behind on their taxes and some investors want to tear it down and turn it into a shopping mall! Boooo!

Breakin' 2 goes with the crooked land developer story and it works pretty well as a hair thin thread upon which to hang a ton of great dance numbers. Some of these dance numbers, they're not just good, they're some of the best of all time, with a nice mix of traditional choreographed pieces like in the glory days of the Hollywood musical, and some smaller set pieces designed specifically to show off what hip hop dancing is really all about.

Shrimp has one of the movie's best scenes dancing on the ceiling and walls of his bedroom. We've seen this trick before and we know that it's done by putting the room on a spinning axis, but it's really done well here. It's shown in just a few, long, unbroken shots as he literally walks from floor to wall to ceiling all in one take. You can see out the window and look at the stationary trees, helping to maintain the illusion. Halfway through, his girlfriend walks in and literally stands upright as Shrimp is still spinning on the ceiling. Obviously, they used a harness and tied her hair down, but it shows just how far they went to make this scene work.

Shabadoo has his own great number, too, leading a troupe of dancers against a local street gang. The gang throws a brick through a window and Shabadoo and his friends chase them down alleyways under a bridge, where Shabadoo rips off his vest and gets ready to... Dance at them, very aggressively. It has all the action of a rumble with none of the violence, it's exciting, fun and funny to see the characters act so aggressive and then settle their differences with a shake off.

Now of course, the movie ends happily. That's not a spoiler. How else could such an upbeat, positive movie end but with an upbeat, positive ending?

So the next time you want a good time, a few laughs and a great show, get some beers and some buddies and give Breakin' 2 a download.
