How To Have A Great Babymoon

By Marina K. Villatoro

What is a Babymoon?

The term babymoon is used to describe a last luxurious, pamper-filled getaway for expecting couples or single parents-to-be. But nowadays the term has also been used for new families that are taking their small children with them for the luxury track.

All-inclusive resorts are fully geared up to pamper and cuddle expectant parents and new parents they normally have different programs, spa treatments and professional nanny services. Babymoons have also become a great way to get some quality time with family or reconnect with your 'better half.'

When is the best time to travel?

For expectant moms the best time to go on a babymoon is during second trimester. That is because that is the period of time right after the not-so-grand morning sickness sessions have subsided and the weird hormonal outbursts are almost stabilized but before the last few weeks of constant discomfort. Although, I have personally traveled in my eighth month, and have had little problems, so it's really up to you. One thing that is very important to remember is to talk to your doctor.

If you're traveling with your newborn, babymoons are best when your child is between three months and one year old. That's because it's before your child's personality awakens and they have the power to scream to speak their mind.

Where to Babymoon?

Babymoon packages and spa retreats are plentiful around the world. Depending on where you want to go these great sites have lots of options. You can find more information here: Ivillage, babymoonfinder, family travel forum. But for me Costa Rica is the perfect place for the ultimate babymoon luxury hoorah in Costa Rica. This tropical destination is ideal for complete relaxation at luxury hotels and resorts while being surrounded by nature in its most pristine form. You can choose rain forest hideaways with thermal water baths and volcanic mud body treatments, beach getaways with world-class golfing, tropical spas, crystal clear blue waters, and poolside pleasures.

If you're planning a babymoon with a child, there are also many beautiful resorts with playgroups, kid activities and professional nanny services. Plus Costa Rica is known for their top-of-the-line medical services and child care providers.

What's a dad-less pleasure?

You don't always have to have a male companion to have a phenomenal babymoon. Single moms also deserve first-class pampering, massages and poolside relaxation. All hotels and resorts cater to all needs.

Here are a few tips and recommendations to make sure you get the most out of your babymoon:

1. Find out from your airline about their pregnancy restrictions.

2. Ask for the bulk seat row so that you have more leg room.

3. Sit in an aisle seat so you can get in and out easily.

4. Have your obstetrician's contact information on you all the time and get the number of the closest medical professionals and facilities before arriving.

5. Travel insurance providers have strict regulations about pregnancy. However, almost all health insurance companies cover treatments abroad, especially in Costa Rica.

Checklist for new moms, dads, and babies:

1. Babies need valid passports.

2. Most airlines will ask for birth certificates, so take a copy with you.

3. Check with the airline for baby age restrictions, some don't allow children under three months old.

Now that you have all you need for a babymoon, it's time to enjoy yourself. Remember you deserve it!
