Popular And Beloved Movies To Enjoy Now

By Tomas Hughes

Movies are most likely the number one preferred form of entertainment in the world. The fact is that movies are easy on the pocket, collectively beloved and they have the power to affect us psychologically. When a film is based on true events we learn from the tribulations of another person, and most of the time fictional motion pictures have an effect on us the same way.

Dissimilar genres have an effect on people in different ways of course. There are men and women alike who love the chick-flicks and there are those that would never watch one. Some love horror movies and some dislike them but the good thing about the movie business is that there is something for everyone.

The movie entertainment business has been around now for almost a century. But, it has only been in the past 30 years that technology has developed so that we can enjoy our motion pictures right at home. There are now millions of DVD's or videos that are rented or purchased every single month in America and now it is even better because now you can download a film right on your own computer from the comfort of your own dwelling.

Films are good entertainment but they can also be very useful for our mental health. Motion pictures permit us to take some time to calm down and flee from our everyday problems and concerns. We are able to let go of our day by day cares as we get caught up in the lives we are watching on film.

Films can also teach us. True stories such as the interesting tale of Erin Brockovich, who was excellently portrayed by Julia Roberts in the film of the same name or documentaries such as Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth", educate us about essential political and social truths about the world we live in.

History is also often portrayed in the movies. One of the most famous motion pictures of all times actually teaches us a lot about a vital part of American history. "Gone With The Wind" seems like a love story about Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara but it really teaches us quite a bit about the Civil War and that time in our history.

Mamma Mia is a treasured motion picture of mine. Sophie is about to get married. Her single mom has invited her two best all-time friends to the wedding. Sophie has invited three men from her mothers past, hopeful to find her father, and have him walk her down the aisle. Old romances are reborn during the disordered day before the wedding.

Everybody's favorite motion picture, Ocean's Twelve, three years ago Danny Ocean and his team of eleven had pulled of one of the most daring heists in contemporary times. Terry Benedict, the casino owner they swindled out of $160 million wants his money back, and knows who robbed him. This leads to another and more diabolical plot to deal with this new mess.

Our top movie is Jarhead. This film takes you from boot camp through a tour of duty in the Gulf War. As the soldiers poor into Iraq they meet little conflict. Many of the soldiers are impatient to see some action. It is what they have been training for.

So the next time you want to sit down and take pleasure in a film realize that you are doing yourself a favor. You can enjoy yourself in some quiet downtime while allowing yourself a much-needed escape. Take some time away from your life and problems and immerse yourself in someone else's story while you are learning about the world. It is really no shock that films are almost everyone's most wanted source of entertainment.

So whether you know it or not, when you sit down and relax and view a wonderful motion picture you are doing yourself a good turn. You are permitting yourself to lighten up and dream, flee your own problems and have the benefit of some quiet downtime and you are also learning more about other individuals and the world we all live in. It is no wonder that motion pictures are almost everyone's most wanted source of entertainment.
