Experience Deep Sea Fishing at Sea Isle, New Jersey

By Stephen Daniels

Fishing enthusiasts of every persuasion are being drawn in increasing numbers to Sea Isle, New Jersey. Offering the excitement and adventure of deep sea fishing year-round, all that remains is for you to pick the ideal time for your charter fishing expedition. This area is particularly attractive to many different varieties of fish thanks to the cross flows of the Delaware River, the Hudson River, and the Gulf Stream. Staying close in to the shore, you can catch blue fish, striped bass, fluke, and weakfish, among others. If you prefer to stick to the shore, good surf fishing is available on several beaches in the area.

If you're looking to venture out further on the ocean to do battle with the bigger fish, get in touch with a Sea Isle charter fishing boat. Many of these boats offer 1/2 day, 3/4 day, all day or 23 hour night time charters, depending on what you are hoping to catch and how far you are willing to travel. For many fishermen, the adventure is its own reward. Others want the unique challenge of fighting a giant tuna, a swordfish, or mahi-mahi.

Deep sea fishing is an activity that can be enjoyed by the whole family, and trips can be found to suit nearly any budget. You don't necessarily have to be strong to land a big fish -- skill and technique are more important, as knowledgeable fishermen know. While they usually don't weigh more than 15 pounds, bluefish are, pound-for-pound, excellent fighters. Caught by jigging (dropping un-baited hook and reeling in as fast as possible) or by bait fishing, they will provide even experienced anglers with no small amount of enjoyment. Your crew will help with every aspect of your experience, including cleaning and filleting the catch. Bring your own food, beverages, suntan lotion, and of course, a camera for some snapshots of you with your trophies. If you're planning to take some home for a fish fry, bring a cooler for storing your catch as well.

More adventurous anglers may wish for an exciting overnight trip. You can head out to sea in the late afternoon and catch a quick nap in the clean, air-conditioned bunkrooms while you're en route to deeper waters. Sometime around midnight, it'll be time to wage war with the bigger fighters of the deep. In the fall, tuna runs can produce fish anywhere from 25 lbs - 100+ lbs. A tuna is an extraordinary, unrelenting fighter. It will definitely give you an experience to remember. Swordfish caught weigh up to 250 lbs, and there's also the great tasting mahi-mahi, weighing in at about 20 lbs.

You'll fish all through the night hours until dawn, then take a leisurely boat ride back to the shore. Be sure to bring a blanket or sleeping bag and pillow. While bait is provided, fishing equipment is typically rented. Deep sea fishing off Sea Isle, New Jersey will offer a unique experience you will remember for years to come, whether you want a weekend trip with the boys or an adventure for the whole family to enjoy.
