Most people think of Australia as being mostly dirt and desert with nothing to offer in the terms of a vacation. When some friends suggested we go I had the same idea but I couldn't have been more wrong. We had a wonderful time and I thought I would pass the experience along to you.
The first place we headed was the beach of all things. I never really though about Australia being a continent all to itself but it has miles of beaches covered in white sand and beautiful blue waters. They have snorkeling, diving, and surfing available at just about all of the beaches there. And if the marine life and reefs aren't enough to lure you in then they also have moss covered submarines and underwater caves begging to be explored.
The night life in Sydney was spectacular. They had concerts and music festivals and so many other activities I couldn't keep up. We always had plenty to keep us occupied and there was never a dull moment. We took a yacht into the harbor and sailed past the opera house; what a gorgeous site!
And yes they do have those deserts but they were not like I thought they would be. Even in the desert we found magnificent purple vegetation and even a lush green oasis or two. It is also a rock climber paradise. We had a blast and it was almost spiritual being in an ancient land with landscapes as far as the eye can see. The sunsets alone were worth what we paid for the trip.
Be prepared for a bit of culture shock. You should keep in mind that this is a foreign country and though they are much like me and you, you may find some very interesting people. Many Australians will gladly sit around a fire and spin you a yarn into the wee hours of the morning. Everyone I met was friendly and helpful.
You can find affordable vacation packages on many travel sites and they can help you plan yours to suit your own tastes. Australia is a world apart and you might never want to come home.
