The Merlin Entertainments London Eye was opened officially by the then U.K. Prime Minister, Mr. Tony Blair, on the night of December 31 but, unfortunately, there were safety problems leading to the public not gaining access until March 2000. At that time it was the world's tallest Ferris wheel at a height of four hundred and forty three feet.
The enormous wheel can be found on the South Bank of the River Thames in Jubilee Gardens looking down upon the Houses of Parliament below. From within one of the thirty two compartments towering over the whole of London you can see a large number of London landmarks, the already mentioned Houses of Parliament, Hampton Court Palace, St Paul's, Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey are just some, what a fantastic way in which to see most of London and, more than likely, the reason it is one of the busiest attraction in London.
The first flight on the London Eye is at 10.00 am but the ticket office opens half an hour earlier. It closes at half past nine at night between July and August, 8 'o clock at night between October and April and at 9 pm for the rest of the year.
