The Kansas City Chiefs have had a rough few years of football. Just a few years back, they were a competitive football team and had an arsenal of great players.
With the signing of Matt Cassel, Kansas City Chiefs fans had reason to be optimistic. Cassel replaced the injured Tom Brady in 08' and led the team to a respectable 11-5 record, just missing the playoffs. Could Cassel work the same magic in Kansas City?
The loss of TE Tony Gonzalez was a definite blow to the team, and you can be sure that Cassel wishes he had a future Hall of Fame target to pass to every Sunday. The Chiefs have their franchise QB in place, and now it's time to fit the rest of the puzzle pieces in.
After losing an aging Trent Green to injury, the Chiefs have struggled to find their way at quarterback, juggling between Damon Huard, Brodie Croyle, and others, but Cassel really eliminates any question marks at the position.
Unfortunately, Cassel was absent from the team's week 1 game at Baltimore due to injury. Despite this, the Chiefs looked pretty good, all things considered. Dwayne Bowe and others give this team an injection of youth, and a bit of hope.
Cassel was an efficient quarterback in week 2, but the team was unable to defeat the visiting Oakland Raiders. While the Raiders would normally be considered an easy opponent, the fact that they nearly beat the Chargers at home in week 1 might mean that the Raiders are improved.
An 0-2 start is far from ideal for Kansas City, who must now face very difficult opponents during the next three weeks. Who would want to play the Eagles, Cowboys, and Giants in consecutive weeks after starting 0-2? "Not I" said the rest of the NFL.
If they can find a win over the next three weeks against the Eagles, Cowboys or Giants, it will set a new standard and give some confidence to the Chiefs. I think under Matt Cassel, they'll definitely have a better year than last.
