The last ten days of the year saw eighteen youngsters sailing from Mumbai to Mandwa for a sail camp supported by the BSA - Bombay Sailing association and the RBYC - Royal Bombay yacht Club youngsters, during the last few days of the year. The children sailed from Mumbai to Mandwa.
A world class coach was appointed the task. The parents along with the children resided at Madwas in the BSA club house.Sailing is not hard. Sailing involves discipline and attentiveness, these are qualities that school often fail to teach kids. Sailing teaches the children to appreciate and respect the natrual forces of the world and see how the earth really works, and understamd how they, as the next Gen. are responisible for protecting the envoirment.
They discover to rely on and develop their common logic, and instantaneously draw upon competencies that they learned along the way: how to calculate distance, how to interpret the weather conditions, how a sailboat works, how to make out landmarks and sea life. The learning approach taught at the camp is absolute natrual , a child hardly realizes he or she is learning; & thought he or she was only going out for a ride on a boat to enjoy the day.
In recent years there has been a lot of interest in Sailing, what with Mumbai being a coastal city. They were extremely overjoyed to give up a holiday in Disney land & get into their little boats and yachts instead! In the next few days the kids kept busy with regular training & drills.
As the youngsters had no access to Television, Online or any additional diversions, they had only their boats & each other to keep them entertained and engaged. This boating extravaganza was held on the 2nd Jan 2010. Once the education was finished the children took part in a race from Mandwa to Mumbai. Upamanyu Dutta won the race.
